I consider myself loyal. It’s in my nature to be loyal. Sadly, I have neglected myself in the process. I was loyal to others, but for a long time, I wasn’t loyal to myself. Self-loyalty is something we don’t talk about enough.

We talk about loyalty to others; society says it’s hard to find loyal people and ain’t nobody loyal.  However, looking for loyalty in others comes from an ego perspective and not from a spiritual perspective. Trust me, I used to be on that same train, talking the same shit until I looked in the mirror and asked myself these questions: “Are you loyal to yourself? Do you honor yourself?”

Observing myself to understand loyalty on a deeper level, I noticed I wasn’t being true to myself. I said things and didn’t follow through on them. I did things I vowed I would never do again, but because I could not say NO, I committed myself to others but neglected myself.

I started pondering about loyalty. How can I expect others to be loyal to me when I ain’t even loyal to myself? Why am I more loyal to others than to myself? It dawned on me that I needed to value myself.

I now understand that by being loyal to myself, I attract the same loyalty from other people. Loyalty does not start from the outside but the inside of you. When I started my self-love journey, I became aware that I wanted to be faithful to myself, committed to myself, honor myself and be loyal to myself. I used to live the ways of the outside world. Now I wanted to go within and start with myself.

Since nothing in this world is permanent, building loyalty outside of you is tricky. I trust myself enough to depend on myself and be loyal to myself. I know I got me. And when I get uncertain, I strengthen and ground myself with meditation.

Being loyal to myself and honoring myself is a higher road I have chosen to take. The lower road is outside of me. After staying faithful to others and everything outside of me and neglecting my inner world, it feels good to be finally loyal within me. I hope that you too find treasure in being loyal to yourself.
